Hope for the Homeless

Vision – this is a picture of the future

Taking people into hope whereby they are living a fulfilled, purposeful and content life

Purpose - the reason why we exist

To bring the hope and love of Christ to the homeless in both spiritual and practical ways.

Value – what we hold as a group

Embracing the homeless with love, acceptance and forgiveness.
Showing love in practical ways.
Believing in and ministering spiritually to those around us.
Ongoing discipleship to the lordship and saving grace of Christ Jesus.

At Hope for the Homeless

we strive to reach out to people finding themselves homeless for any reason. It is our mission to provide support, food, clothing, toiletries, a kind listening ear, and understanding.

Hope for the Homeless is reaching out to the homeless community in Cork City:

  • Street Outreach every second Friday night, outside Brown Thomas and in the streets of Cork to give any help we can.
  • Hope Café is opened every Saturday in The Haven, Bachelors Quay, where we provide a hot meal, clothing, sleeping bags, shelter and support for those who really need it.
  • Assistance with Accommodation where possible
  • Assistance with Rehab Applications in partnership with Tiglin, Teen Challenge and Remar
  • Hope Recovery 12 steps program is available every Tuesday from 12 to 2pm in The Haven, Bachelors Quay for anyone trying to overcome life’s hurt, hang ups and habits of drug and alcohol. (This is not just for the homeless but inclusive to all)

We help anyone to access addiction and rehab centres by providing information, advice, assistance to travel and basic supplies and prayerful emotional support. We regularly do follow up work with people we’ve met by visiting in prison if needed, accompanying in court, assisting with Housing application, help with setting up into a new house/shared room, giving personal references where warranted.

The Team

The organisation is fully run by volunteers of all backgrounds

The CEO of Hope for the Homeless is Gillian Horgan

Gillian is a Deacon in Good News Church. Has studied Youth & Community UCC, and Addiction studies HSE. She has worked with Christian street ministries, Cobh Community Drugs Project, The Lighthouse christian ministry in Dublin.
She stated up “Hope for the Homeless” in September of  2016 as part of the benevolent ministry of Good News Christian Church and it's general oversight. It was lunched on Friday night the 16th of September with a sleep-out where we joined with the homeless on our streets.

The HftH Sub-Council

This is made up of Volunteers who along with the CEO assist in the day to day running of HftH in its compliance to its vision, purpose, values, alignment to GNCC benevolence, financial controls, procedures and strategy.
  • Emma Sweetman
  • Marie-Pia Kuti
  • Melissa O'Mahony
  • Paschal Coffey
  • Thomas Hoban

Caring Volunteers

Of course there is an army of volunteers and supporters who work in many and various ways of giving their time, talents and even financial resources and treasures.

Our front line volunteers will received induction and orientation and various training such as First Aid, Peaceful Intervention, HACCP… (we are in need of funds for these much needed courses).

We have many volunteers from partner churches in Cork City and even from other parts of Munster who share in the Vision, Purpose and Values of HftH. We have a few from the Muslim community who share in our concern for the homeless. Also a sizable percentage of the volunteers are from the general public with no church background or affiliation, but just want to partner with us in care for our homeless and the marginalized in society.

Partner With Us

We would love to have those who desire to give hope to the homeless partner with us in whatever way they can.
- You can give clothing, supplies, toiletries.
- You can give your time for Friday Outreach or our Hope Café
- You can give donations by which we can source supplies needed.
- You can partner with us as a church, business or other helpful charity

Or maybe you can leave a word of encouragement and hope on our FB page :-)
In the short term, we still have needs of our own warehouse close to the city. Our long term vision is to have our own building from where we can be always available to people in need and much much more ....
